Researchers

In subproject B06, Maximilian Friedrichs-Dachale is working on the development of innovative fuselage structures that meet the multidisciplinary requirements of highly integrated propulsion systems.

To this end, he is developing methodological approaches to analyse  the complex problem, including mechanical and thermal interactions, to explore possible solution spaces for the structural design and to carry out multidisciplinary optimization.

As part of its research activities within subproject C02, David Gösele is developing highly accurate numerical methods to investigate dehumidification in the engine.

The motivation behind dehumidification is the reduction of climate-damaging persistent contrails. The numerical method employed is Multiphase DNS (Direct Numerical Simulation), which is particularly being expanded to include condensation.

As part of the research project B06, Nicolas Grünfelder is investigating the use of microstructure-driven components to accommodate multiphysical load cases in the application of the engine-tail interface.

By developing suitable multi-scale optimization methods, these components, modeled in high-fidelity and mid-fidelity, are optimized for static, dynamic, thermal and acoustic load combinations.

Abisheks work in project B01 is centered on heat transfer in integrated propulsion systems, with experiments on fouling effects. Collaborating across projects, B01 optimizes heat transferring structures through experiments and simulations.

The goal is to enhance waste heat transfer efficiency while ensuring system resilience, particularly against fouling, in integrated propulsion systems.
